Superfunds – do they tick all the boxes?
2020 saw The Pensions Regulator issuing guidance for DB superfunds in June, followed by guidance on the process it expects from trustees and sponsors when considering superfunds in October.

We fully expect the first superfund transaction will take place in 2021 and anticipate that there will be a significant fanfare and interest when it does, but will superfunds be right for you? Our video and checklist may help you to decide.

Video: How to use GMP equalisation to your scheme’s benefit
GMP equalisation can be a barrier to schemes getting on with the projects that will benefit their members the most.

In this video, Lauren Ramsey explains how using GMP conversion as a way of equalising GMPs can be combined with a PIE exercise to increase the benefits of the exercise all round, leaving behind a simpler pension scheme that is closer to reaching its end goal.

Video: Supporting DC members to make informed decisions
Without the appropriate support for DC members, one bad decision at retirement could undo 20 years’ worth of hard work on the accumulation side. In this video Aon's Head of DC, Ben Roe, is joined by James Collier to share views on what 'good' looks like in respect of DC retirement support and how we can build a more consistent DB and DC member journey.

Aon in the press
This month, we see trouble ahead for UK pension schemes when temporary insolvency protections end. We say that the McCloud regulations need to be clarified and note that schemes should avoid over-reacting to COVID-19. We share our hopes and fears for pensions in 2021 and predict that the events of 2020 are likely to increase UK pension scheme closures.
